Elizabeth Blackburn Biography

Elizabeth Blackburn is a Nobel laureate Australian American. She was born on November 26, 1948. Elizabeth Blackburn was a biological researcher at the University of California, San Francisco where she studied a structure called telomere, which is a region at the end of chromosomes. She also worked in medical ethics at the Bush Administration’s President’s Council on Bioethics. In 1984 she discovered telomerase, the enzyme that refreshes the telomere. For her discovery she was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine.
